Job Description

This person will be the overall tax leader for one of the US Insurance / FAO Clients to provide overall oversight and mentoring this clients Tax team at EXL (including oversight/mentoring to Tax Senior Managers). This person needs to be a very strong leader with client management and people management experience with a deep tax domain. The Tax experience needs to be around operations tax (Withholding Tax, Premium Tax, etc.).
Essential Functions
U.S. Indirect Tax

Individual will be responsible for overseeing overall tax process including filing/accounting/reporting functions related to clients U.S. Indirect Tax operations:

Primary Responsibilities includes oversight of -

U.S. Indirect Tax Compliance

General U.S. Premium Tax Compliance and Withholding Tax Activities
Experience on quarterly estimates and extensions for premium tax
Work paper preparation for premium returns
Data input and tax return preparation (A/S, Trial Balance, loads, book consolidations)
Experience on Premium tax returns, Withholding Taxes and Sales & Use Taxes
E-filing and Mailing of state tax returns to State Regulator
Experience on Premium Pro software and Super forms.
Basic knowledge of Oracle application preferred

Desired Skill set
Strong Excel and/or Access background
Previous experience with tax compliance software
Withholding Tax Activities oversight -

Making daily and periodic deposits of 1099 federal and state withholding and related reporting
Timely preparation and filing of monthly/quarterly/Annual state withholding returns
Preparation & filing of Federal 941/941x/945/945x returns
W2/1099 transmission of tax information forms to IRS
Perform monthly closing procedures, reconciliations and analysis of assigned GL accounts for State & federal
Year-end B Notices process and issuance of tax forms, W9
Responsible for the accounting process connected to Withholding tax payments including processing check requests/electronic payments and posting related Journal entries to the General ledger

Premium Tax Activities oversight -

Responsible for preparation/review and filling of annual state premium tax returns
Preparation/review and filling of quarterly estimates state premium tax payments, supporting worksheets and check requests
Ensuring timely closure of monthly state premium tax accruals activities including supporting documents, prepare & record general ledger entries for accruals
Perform monthly closing procedures, reconciliations and analysis of assigned GL accounts
Responsible for the timely filing of municipal premium tax returns throughout the year
Track law changes to state premium tax requirement and update
Ability to deal with state authorities and knowledge of handling state notices
Responsible for the accounting process related to premium tax compliance which include processing check request/electronic payments and posting related Journal entries to the General ledger

Work Experience & Other Requirements
10 years experience working with indirect tax-related entries, returns, and reports, preferably in the insurance industry and for multiple companies.
Chartered Accountant / CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
Strong understanding of relevant tax laws and the ability to research the same
Ability to analyze complex information, relate and compare data from different sources and identify cause and effect relationships
Excellent oral, written, listening and communication skills.
Ability to articulate complex information.
Ability to communicate well with other departments, as well as external clients and customers
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to handle adverse situations in a professional and calm manner
Valid Passport/ visa is mandatory.

Salary: INR 20,00,000 - 35,00,000 P.A.
